Alana’s Love Letter to Pilates

During a brief stint in San Francisco, Ca, I serendipitously discovered  a Pilates studio down the street from my apartment in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Having gone to a gym my entire life and being a self proclaimed meat head, Pilates was completely foreign and new. After one lesson I was hooked! My body moved in ways I never new possible. From head to toe, I felt whole and connected. With so much emphasis on spinal mobility and moving from your center, it cultivated a feeling of deep strength.

That same year I decided to move back down to Southern California and began my formal training with Rael Isacowitz at BASI Pilates in 2015. In 2016 I completed my 500 hour comprehensive certification and never looked back.

Since completing my comprehensive certification, I’m fortunate to train weekly with the renowned teacher of teachers, Chris Robinson of S6 Pilates here in San Diego.

Physical movement, and Pilates, has completely altered my purpose in this world. I’ve devoted my life in pursuit of understanding the effect exercise and consistent movement has on the body, mind, and spirit. My methodology towards movement and Pilates is thoughtful and deliberate, with an informed understanding that every movement has a functional purpose with a corresponding adaptive response. Every Pilates plan is created and tailored toward each client’s specific needs and goals. Pilates is not one size fits all, and every person deserves to feel seen and cared for, personally.

I hope to see you on the mat.

Love, Alana X
